Diagnostic Assessments identify learning/development, academics, anxiety, and neurodevelopmental disorders and are completed as part of a multi-disciplinary team for toddlers, children, youth, and adults. We specialize in complex cases, differential/dual diagnosis, presentation of ASD for women and gender minorities, and late/missed diagnosis.
Comprehensive diagnostic assessments can confirm or rule out a neurodevelopmental diagnosis. Our inter-disciplinary approach includes gold standard autism measures (ADOS-2 & ADI-R) with cognitive, adaptive and behavioural measures. Available for toddlers (beginning at 12 months) and children, adolescents, and adults.
A psycho-educational assessment measures and contrasts aptitude (intelligence) and achievement (school performance), as well as developmental learning and behavioural disorders.
An AD-HD Assessment includes Executive Functioning and Adaptive measures to assess attentional processes. The assessment evaluates initiation, sustained effort, emotional modulation, ability to self-monitor and self-correct, working memory, organization and planning, and includes aptitude (intelligence) measure.
A gifted assessment explores exceptional intellectual abilities. Often administered to determine eligibility for additional funding and/or meeting entrance criteria for a specific school board or program (i.e., Full Scale IQ (FSIQ) or General Ability Index (GAI) at or above the 98th percentile (standard score >130).
We also do formal evaluation of cognitive capacity and adaptive functioning to assist in determining eligibility for support programs such as AISH (Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped) and PDD (Persons with Developmental Disabilities).
Fine motor skills involve coordination of small muscles, such as those in the hands and fingers, which are needed to do tasks such as writing, drawing, and buttoning a shirt. Gross motor skills, on the other hand, involve larger muscle groups used when running, jumping, and throwing. Both types of motor skills are essential for overall physical development and daily functioning. This assessment examines the fine motor skills required for precision and dexterity, and the gross motor skills need to develop strength, balance, and coordination.
This assessment evaluates sensory processing patterns in the context of home, school, and community-based activities. It can be helpful in determining if reactive behaviours are due, for example, to hypersensitivity to lights, sounds, sensations, and/or textures. Sensory assessments often reveal the often hidden challenges that can prevent individuals from achieving their full potential.
This assessment explores visual perception and visual-motor integration, which is the connection between motor skills and vision, important for tasks such as printing, catching a ball, reading, mathematics and overall academic progress.
